Co-Enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an important vitamin-like nutrient that functions much like vitamin E in that it participates in antioxidant and free-radical reactions. However, CoQ10 has a special biochemical role of major importance: it plays a critical role in the production of ATP, the basic energy molecule of all cells. In animal studies, CoQ10 supplementation has increased mean lifespan by as much as 50%. In addition, the longer living animals also remained more active and younger looking with bright eyes, glossy coats and healthy skin.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is produced by the human body and is necessary for the basic functioning of cells. CoQ10 levels are reported to decrease with age and to be low in patients with some chronic diseases such as heart conditions, muscular dystrophies, Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Some prescription drugs may also lower CoQ10 levels.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). There is some research that the supplement CoQ10 may help to reduce high blood pressure.

Recent clinical trials show faster and greater regression of disease with doses (300-600 mg) of CoQ10 daily. The unique benefit of Vitamin E is added to the formula to enhance the absorption of CoQ10, an oil soluble material. Enhanced absorption allows blood levels to normalize and beneficial effects to be seen much faster.

A 12 week double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 83 people with systolic hypertension examined the effect of CoQ10 supplements (60 mg twice daily). After the 12 weeks, there was a mean reduction in systolic blood pressure of 17.8 mm Hg in the Coq10-treated group.

Another study conducted at the University of Western Australia looked at the effect of CoQ10 on blood pressure and glycemic control in 74 people with type 2 diabetes. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either 100mg CoQ10 twice daily, 200mg of the drug fenfibrate, both, or neither for 12 weeks.

CoQ10 significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure(mean reduction 6.1 mm Hg and 2.9 mm Hg respectively). There was also a reduction in HbA1C, a marker for long-term glycemic control.

The beneficial effects of CoQ10 appear to be dose dependent. Recent clinical trials show faster and greater regression of disease with doses (300-600 mg) of CoQ10 daily.

One tablet twice daily. May be dissolved in the mouth
