Cardiotrate
The anti-oxidant Carnitine nutrient is designed for cholesterol, weight loss, and fatigue. Carnitine is a transporter of fats into the mitochondria cells. A pioneer in fat metabolism believes this makes Carnitine one of the most important nutrients available for the following reasons:
- Anti-Oxidant: Ninety-five percent of free radicals are generated in the mitochondria. Since most anti-oxidants like Vitamin E are fat soluble, they require a trans-mitochondrial carrier to prevent oxidation and free radical production. Simply stated, oxidation and free radical damage will proliferate in the absence of adequate Carnitine.
- Cholesterol/Triglycerides: As we stated above, Carnitine transports fats into the mitochondria. In the absence of adequate Carnitine, the body is unable to transport Cholesterol/Triglycerides for metabolism. This therefore results in a significant rise in the serum levels of these two substances.
- Weight Loss: During weight loss programs, as the body is eliminating stored fat (Ketones), dangerously high levels of these fats may accumulate. The body generally does not have enough Carnitine to transport these fats into the mitochondria for breakdown. Therefore supplementing with Carnitine is generally advised during dieting to eliminate fats from the body.
- Fatigue: As we have mentioned above, Carnitine transports fats and fat soluble nutrients into the mitochondria. The mitochondria uses these high calorie fats to produce muscle fueling ATP.
